Working Remotely

Here are a few links to products (some of them free) to help staff work while not at their desks.

LMI is a very easy system to install to allow people to control their PC’s over the web (i.e. from home). The free version has some limitations but should be sufficient for most people to use.
Web Remote Desktop for XP

This solution from Microsoft is free but needs a fair bit of technical ability to set up as you’ll need to reconfigure any firewalls you have.
Citrix XenApp

For larger environments, Citrix have a server system that allows users to connect to a server that mimics lots of PCs so you don’t need a physical computer for each staff member working remotely.
NoMachine

This one needs a high level of technical ability to setup and install but is a lot cheaper than the Citrix solution. It runs on Linux so you’ll need to have a fair understanding of Linux systems. If you want to run MS Office apps on the linux server you’ll probably want to install Crossover as well.
Google Apps

Finally, Google offer something that works completely differently. For users who just need simple spreadsheets and documents, google has their own on-line system that is compatible with Word and Excel.
