In my work as a rabbi I am often with people who want to talk about what they believe; whom they love; their family; their dreams. Quite often that conversation becomes one about “what will happen when I die”? “How will all my hopes and aspirations be carried on into the future”? There are many occasions in our lifetimes where we talk about, or at least think about, what our legacy will be? This concern is an ancient and biblical one ever since Abra(ha)m (in Genesis 15:3) wondered, despite’s God’s promise to him, who would carry on his theological legacy.
