Jeneration preparing sixth-formers for university life

Interesting, useful, insightful, enjoyable, exciting, fun, optimistic and revitalising are just some of the words used by participants to describe Jeneration’s on-campus weekend. The event, previously run by RSY-Netzer, is part of a growing programme of activities for sixth-formers, designed to help prepare them for university.

SWESRS remembers Jewish serviceman

Members of SWESRS: South West Essex and Settlement Reform Synagogue have been maintaining the grave of a Jewish serviceman in a Christian graveyard in Essex. A memorial service will be held at his graveside on Remembrance Sunday.

Women of the Wall: Urgent action required

Two weeks ago three members of religious rights group Women of the Wall were arrested for praying at the Western Wall, or Kotel, in Jerusalem. Women of the Wall leader and IRAC Chair, Anat Hoffman had been holding prayers for Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan at the Wall when she was arrested for 'disturbing public order' and placed in prison overnight. Her crime was to sing the Shema and wear a prayer shawl – practices forbidden to women by the Orthodox rabbinate, which controls all services at the site, but not by Israeli law. Director Lesley Sachs and Board member Rachel Cohen Yeshurun were also arrested for the same offence.
