Showcasing Edgware & District Reform Synagogue
Thursday, 31 May 2012Edgware & District Reform Synagogue (EDRS) recently twinned with the Emanu-el Community in Odessa, Ukraine and last June, 11 people from EDRS travelled there to help them establish their community. This visit lead to the EDRS community producing some great short films on the vibrant life of the synagogue.
Shavuot at Sinai
Wednesday, 30 May 2012Shavuot at Sinai Synagogue in Leeds was celebrated with a wide range of activities, appealing to all ages. The Shavuot themed chavurah supper after the Kabbalat Shabbat service, catered by one of the Sinai catering teams, was enjoyed by over 60 participants. Lunch following the Shabbat morning service heralded the next part of the Shavuot programme, designed by Sarah Glatherine and Lorna Mitchell to be for all ages.
Recognition for Reform Rabbis in Israel
Tuesday, 29 May 2012It has been announced that in an historic move, the Israeli government is to pay Reform and Conservative rabbis, supporting their salaries and recognising them as "rabbis of non-Orthodox communities." The ruling from the attorney general applies to regional councils and farming communities and follows seven years of campaigning by the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism and the Israel Religious Action Center on behalf of Rabbi Miri Gold of Kibbutz Gezer.
British Ambassador to Israel addresses Reform Shavuot gathering
Tuesday, 29 May 2012His Excellency Matthew Gould, British Ambassador to Israel addressed over 100 people at the Movement for Reform Judaism's Tikkun Leyl Shavuot held at the Sternberg Centre on Erev Shavuot. The Ambassador, who is a member of West London Synagogue, spoke on the importance of getting away from threats and fears when we engage with Israel.
