Dancing the Night Away: Kol Chai Hatch End Jewish Community Celebrates 25 Years

Over 140 members and friends of Kol Chai Hatch End Jewish Community enjoyed a 25th anniversary celebratory dinner dance on Saturday 26th November at the Apollonia Restaurant in Stanmore.

Members and friends of Kol Chai enjoyed a 25th anniversary celebratory dinner dance Speakers included founder member Rosalind Astaire who recalled the flyer she spotted in a shop in Hatch End that led to the first services back in 1986. Originally organised by a group of 16 families the community rapidly grew to its current size of 300 family units and became a constituent of the Movement for Reform Judaism.

Kol Chai Chairman Peter Gartenberg and his wife JoanneFormer Head Teacher of the Religion School, Pauline Grant, spoke about the early days under the guidance of the late Rabbi Samuel Rodrigues-Pereira and the many educational, social and cultural activities the community has enjoyed.

Says Kol Chai's Rabbi Dr Michael Hilton: "The challenge of today is in some ways similar to that of the very early years of Kol Chai -  to develop new structures for the next generation."
