Greater Manchester Commemorates the Holocaust

PrintE-mail

A Holocaust Memorial Commemoration Service was held at Bolton Town Hall at 3.00pm on Sunday 25 January. Manchester Reform Synagogue’s Rabbi Reuven Silverman attended the event which was organised by the Bolton Interfaith Council, of which Tony McNeile is Chair and volunteer.   Stella Harding JP, a member of the synagogue, and Interfaith Representative in Bolton, organised the Rabbi’s involvement in the event.

The Mayor, Councillor Anthony Connell, welcomed everyone to the service which featured readings from the Christian, Hindu, and Muslim communities, as well as readings from Bolton School girls.

A minute's silence was held to remember and reflect on the Holocaust victims and survivors, and all people of many races and faiths who have died as victims of genocide in many countries. To end the silence Romany children lit candles and Rabbi Silverman read from the Siddur before closing words from Councillor Cliff Morris, JP and Leader of Bolton Council.

Bolton schoolgirl and harpist, Lucy Nolan played at this calming and reflective occasion.
