Hazel trees planted for Hazel at 80

Lady Hazel Sternberg

Lady Hazel Sternberg celebrated her 80th birthday with large numbers of family and friends - including numbers of Ambassadors - at a luncheon party at the Sternberg Centre on Sunday 16th December.

Rabbi Dr Tony Bayfield, Head of the Movement for Reform Judaism and Director of the Sternberg Centre, praised Lady Sternberg for making a significant three-fold contribution as Counsellor and JP to British life; for her unfailing support of Sir Sigmund in his interfaith and diplomatic work; and for her role as mother and grandmother. In recognition of these three qualities, three hazel trees were planted at the Sternberg Centre.

The high point of the luncheon was the unveiling of a magnificent portrait of Lady Sternberg by the distinguished portrait artist Valerie Wiffen - whose portrait of Sir Sigmund hangs in the National Portrait gallery.
