High Holy Day Appeal 5772
Tuesday, 06 September 2011
The High Holy Day Appeal is the Reform Movement’s opportunity to come together in equal support of two projects that will both strengthen our young people’s Jewish identity through RSY-Netzer and make a direct contribution to co-existence in the north of Israel through supporting Tel Hai College.
"Tel Hai College is a remarkable institution, a unique beacon of hope and change in one of the most vulnerable and impoverished areas of northern Israel. The college offers young people from across the entire community whether they be Jewish or Arab Israelis, or from Ethiopian or Bedouin backgrounds, the chance of a better education and consequently the opportunity for a better future free from poverty.
Having recently visited the college I can assure you of the impact it is making in the north of Israel. Tel Hai’s values of academic excellence, co-existence and pluralism, personalised education, community service and environmental protection mean that we, as Reform Jews, can be proud to support such an innovative project in Israel.
This appeal also supports RSY-Netzer’s Israel programmes for 16–18 year olds. We understand how significant time spent in Israel as a young person is a formative and memorable experience. Both Israel Tour and the Shnat gap year enable our participants to develop a personally meaningful Jewish identity and relationship with Israel. This year RSY-Netzer will take more young people to Israel than it has done in over a decade – a wonderful achievement and crucial to the long-term future of Reform Judaism in the UK.
With your help we can ensure these 16–18 year olds and the students at Tel Hai College provide the leadership for our communities in the future.
I hope you will join me in giving this appeal your full support.
Thank you."
