Human Rights Shabbat
Thursday, 29 January 2009
Four communities recently took part in RenéCassin's Human Rights Shabbat; a Shabbat of events to enhance our understanding of the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and also the Jewish tradition - and the relationship between them - and to inspire people to create more just communities.
Events were held at Manchester Reform Synagogue, Radlett and Bushey Reform Synagogue, Wimbledon and District Synagogue and Beth Shalom, Cambridge. Alyth will also be running a Human Rights Shabbat in the near future.
RenéCassin is a charity dedicated to using the experience of the Jewish people to promote universal human rights and to raise awareness of human rights within the Jewish community. The Human Rights Shabbat events took place over December to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was drafted by a French Jew, René Cassin in whose honour the organisation is named.
If you would like to run a Human Rights Shabbat in your community or would be interested in using the resources prepared for the events, please contact RenéCassin today to discuss the specific requirements of your community.
