PrintE-mail

250 people attended Manchester Reform Synagogue on Shabbat, 3rd December for an interfaith service following a week of interfaith events that started with Mitzvah Day on 21st November and ended on 26th November.

National Inter Faith Week is in its third year, and has grown to strengthen interfaith relationships, highlight the contributions that faith communities make to society and develop dialogue between those of religious and non-religious beliefs.

On 24th November, the shul held a seminar series on 'Judaism and Hinduism: Views on Evolution, Natural Disasters and Faith' with Dr. Nawal Prinja, Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee for the Interfaith Network UK and  Rabbi Reuven Silverman of Manchester Reform Synagogue.

The interfaith service marked the end of Inter Faith Week, and was organised by member Louis Rapaport, former President of the Manchester Jewish Representative Council. The guest speakers were the Right Reverend, Nigel McCulloch, Bishop of Manchester and Chair of the Council for Christians and Jews, and Jonathan Arkush, Senior Vice-President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

Members were treated to addresses by both visitors that were uplifting and  called for closer ties and mutual support amongst faiths.

The service was followed by a kiddush, organised by the Ladies Guild.
