Leo Baeck College has commissioned a series of five YouTubes depicting rabbis in their work while being interviewed about their rabbinic roles. Each one is being launched independently on YouTube commencing week of 22nd February 2010.Rabbi Dr Michael Shire, Vice-Principal of Leo Baeck College commented, “This is a fascinating window into the life of five exciting young rabbis all of whom contribute to enriching Jewish life and engaging with the wider world. They are an inspiration to young people and to all those considering entering the rabbinate.”
Rabbis Pete Tobias, Debbie Young Somers, Miriam Berger, David Mitchell and student rabbi Sandra Kviat will be featured in videos showing rabbis working in intergenerational community work, prayer services, the media, interfaith dialogue, education, young people and study. These videos will be accessible to everyone interested in the rabbinate and particularly those considering a career as a rabbi.
The rabbis speak about the multifaceted nature of their work and the variety of opportunities open to them. Each of them is a graduate of Leo Baeck College and they speak about their journey through the five year rabbinic programme. Rabbi Pete Tobias kicks off the series with his last appearance on the Radio 2 Terry Wogan Show in which he offers a Jewish thought for the day. Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers arrives at the gates of Lambeth Palace for consultations with the Church of England. Rabbi Miriam Berger plays hide and seek with the Shabbat challah at Kuddle-up Shabbat at Finchley Reform Synagogue. Rabbi David Mitchell interacts with young people from the Radlett and Bushey Reform cheder and student rabbi Sandra Kviat studies halacha in the Leo Baeck College library.
Unihill Productions and its director Lewis Rose offer all YouTube viewers a unique insight and intimate perspective into the world of five Progressive rabbis.
