Literary Evening in Weybridge

PrintE-mail

Nearly 30 people, including representatives from the Arts Development Office of Elmbridge Borough Council and the Weybridge Women’s Institute, joined members and guests of North West Surrey Synagogue in Weybridge, on Monday, March 2nd, to hear author Judy Jackson speak about her career as a cookery writer and novelist.  The author delighted the audience with tales from her experiences as a food writer and discussed the inspiration for her first novel, “The Camel Trail”.

Judy Jackson at North West Surrey SynagogueThe author has a fascinating family history and it was events, both joyful and tragic, from the lives of past generations that moved her to write her first novel.  She feels a loss at not knowing more details about some of these events and urges everyone to gather family stories and put them in writing so that “they will not be lost to future generations”.  Judy has woven her career in food writing into the novel by prefacing each chapter with a historic family recipe or household tip.

The talk was followed by questions and answers and is part of ongoing adult education and cultural activities that take place at this active community.  For more information about North West Surrey Synagogue, visit the shul's website.
