Manchester Reform Synagogue Gears up for Mitzvah Day

Members of Jackson's Row, Manchester Reform Synagogue, are gearing up for another Mitzvah Day on Sunday 15th November. The synagogue morning service, commencing at 9.00am, will lead onto various projects to be run throughout the day to suit all different ages.

As last year, there is the 'Buy One Give One' event outside the Somerfield store on Burton Road, Didsbury. Executive member Rosemary Taylor will be asking shoppers to donate specific items on their way out of the store so that these can be distributed to a local charity. Last year saw £800 worth of food collected for the benefit of multi faith organisations.

A 'Sandwich Cheer' at Brookvale in Prestwich is being organised by shul member Julia Jacobson, to help distribute sandwiches to house-bound residents living in the community and to provide company and conversation to people living on their own. There's also an accompanied 'Fresh Air Bonanza' - a walk with wheel chair bound residents around the grounds of Brookvale.

At Heathlands, the afternoon will see the choir singing to residents. Council member Jessel Golding is organising a 'Cemetery Clean Up' at Southern Cemetery on Barlow Moor Road to help clean pathways, whilst Cheder Leader Simone Cohen-Elf and her team will be painting one of the shul cheder rooms give learning a new look.

Volunteers are welcome and contact can be made via the synagogue office.
