Movement for Reform Judaism-UJIA High Holy Day Appeal

PrintE-mail

Strengthening commitment to Israel within the British Reform Movement

Each year, UJIA funds the hugely popular UJIA Israel Experience Programme, which works with all British Jewish youth movements, including RSY-Netzer, our youth movement, to give thousands of young people an opportunity to visit Israel on short and long-term programmes. Each year, thanks to UJIA funding, young people from less fortunate backgrounds are able to participate on these programmes to enjoy a valuable experience that significantly enhances Jewish identity at a particularly formative time of life.

Supporting the Leo Baeck College in training rabbis and teachers for our communities

Without UJIA’s support, we would not be able to fund the training of rabbis and teachers for our synagogues and schools. UJIA provides invaluable support to our rabbis through the Assembly of Reform Rabbis UK and the Leo Baeck College.

During the High Holy Days, when we partner UJIA in a joint High Holy Day Appeal, we generate a significant additional financial boost. This year is no exception and we are proud to be joining forces with UJIA again. However, in response to the current economic climate, we need to redouble our efforts.

With that in mind, we would like to invite your community to support the Reform Movement – UJIA High Holyday Appeal this year. Below are two examples of projects which UJIA are supporting in the Galil, Northern Israel:

Tel Hai Academic College

Tel Hai Academic College, located near Kiryat Shmona, has gained a reputation in academic excellence - particularly in the fields of Biotechnology and Computer Sciences – personalised education, community service and outreach programmes. The College is not only the largest employer in the Upper Galil but significantly contributes to the quality of life, attracting and retaining new residents to the region and serves as a powerful catalyst for economic and community development
in the region. The College has a highly diverse student body, drawing from Jewish, Druze, Muslim, Christian and Bedouin communities throughout Israel, promoting cross-community dialogue and cooperation.

To accommodate the steady increase in the number of students and expansion of academic programmes and community services, UJIA together with the College, the
government and other strategic partners have embarked on the construction of a new campus.

Shlomi High School

Shlomi is a small development town on Israel’s vulnerable north western border with Lebanon with the population expected to increase to 20,000 residents by the year 2020.

Until two years ago there was no secondary school in Shlomi, with some 500 secondary school pupils travelling long distances daily to attend 24 different schools in 13 towns and villages throughout northern Israel.

In an effort to ensure consistent social and educational mobility for the children of Shlomi within their own community, UJIA has spearheaded efforts to develop a unique junior and senior high school in the town. This pioneering school - embracing both religious and non-religious students in the same educational facility - the first of its kind in the mainstream public education system in Israel, will strive to achieve excellence in the fields of academic, technological and values based education.
