PrintE-mail

The Liberal Jewish Synagogue has announced the appointment, initially for one year, of Rabbi David Wilfond. Rabbi Wilfond joins Senior Rabbi Alexandra Wright in August 2010, just before the High Holy Days and the start of the countdown to the congregation’s centenary celebration year in 2011. His induction service will be on Shabbat 28th August 2010.

Rabbi David Wilfond will join the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in August.Rabbi Wilfond has been a rabbi for some 14 years and has led congregations in Jerusalem, Kiev and Boston. He joins the LJS from Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem where he was Director of Admissions and Rabbi of the Murstein Synagogue.

Rabbi Wilfond says that "living and working in such diverse Jewish communities has generated a tremendous open-mindedness and a profound respect for local creativity and innovation in Jewish life. No matter where we live, people hunger for inspiration, community, spiritual growth, social justice and a search for meaning. These are at the core of what a Jewish community nurtures within its members. Working as a rabbi in Jerusalem has changed me; Jerusalem often makes people more conservative however, the opposite has occurred. My religious outlook has grown significantly more liberal. Israel has taught me to be an advocate for an inclusive, pluralistic Jewish future".
