Rabbi Bayfield launches ground-breaking book on inter-faith dialogue
Monday, 24 September 2012A new book co-edited by Rabbi Dr Tony Bayfield CBE, President of the Movement for Reform Judaism offers a fresh perspective on the role of faith groups in Britain today.
'Beyond the Dysfunctional Family: Jews, Christians and Muslims in dialogue with each other and with Britain' is the fruit of a decade-long conversation between prominant faith leaders in an atmosphere of trust and respect. The book examines inter-faith relations but also considers how religious communities must behave in order to make a positive contribution to society.
Rabbi Bayfield says: "This book represents an important contribution to understanding what we must do to increase good relations between communities, both relgious and secular. It addresses the need to dispell negative attitudes to relgion and the dominance of exclusively secular values. The challenges we face are real but there is certainly cause for optimism.
"It is also a wonderful example of the work of the Sternberg Centre and the Reform Movement in action. For over 30 years we have been at the forefront of inter-faith dialogue in this country, making solid contributions to society."
The book, which also features contributions from Rabbi Dr Michael Hilton of Kol Chai Hatch End Jewish Community and Rabbi Miriam Berger of Finchley Reform Synagogue is now available - click here to buy a copy.
