Rotem Conversion Bill Update

PrintE-mail

The controversial Rotem Conversion Bill has been postponed. This result is in large part due to the response of concerned individuals with Prime Minister Netanyahu receiving over 50,000 letters by email alone.

The government has agreed to halt the legislation on the Conversion Bill for at least six months and the coalition of Diaspora and Israeli organisations that are committed to Jewish pluralism, have agreed to halt IRAC - the Israel Religious Action Center's pending Supreme Court petition for recognition of non-Orthodox conversions.

Over the next six months, a committee led by Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky, which includes both government and non-Orthodox leaders, will work together to amend the bill in a way that will protect Jewish unity around the world.
