It's a busy time for RSY-Netzer with three tours out in Israel and four summer camps starting in a week's time.Shemesh 2009
RSY-Netzer will be providing over 450 young people with intense social and educational experiences in the UK and Israel this summer. Shemesh is made up of four summer camps, with three of them full to capacity. Young people aged 10-15 years old will be hiking and singing, simulating Temple destructions and re-enacting biblical stories, celebrating Shabbat with music and spending the evenings dancing on camps in Wales and Sussex.
Daniel Lichman, Mazkir of RSY-Netzer says “I am so excited to be leading on Shemesh once again, watching our chanichim and madrichim see how wonderful Judaism and being Jewish can be is as inspiring for the leaders as it is for the participants. I know that this summer, as I watch the madrichim who I lead on camp only a few years ago, I am going to shep some serious naches.”
Adam Martin, Manager of the Youth Department said “We were a little surprised that the camps filled up so quickly, especially in this economic climate. Clearly families are prioritising their kids’ wishes to have fun with their friends at Shemesh. We will make sure they have a fabulous summer.”
Sharing Movement Workers: NWSS
In recognition of the increasingly close relationship between RSY-Netzer and synagogue communities, North West Surrey Synagogue and the movement are piloting a “job share” scheme. RSY-Netzer recruits some of the most experienced, committed and skilled leaders from the Reform Movement and wants to share that resource. Through this scheme the informal educational provision in synagogues can be strengthened and the relationship between the two tightened. It’s a model that has been used successfully in Leeds and Manchester for a few years. Now we want to pilot the scheme in the London area.
Daniel Lichman says “This is a real opportunity for RSY-Netzer to show communities that we are here for them; we are going to be able to replicate what we do so well over the summer, throughout the year within a local community.”
