The 500,000th participant on Israel Tour!
Wednesday, 11 August 2010
Natan Janner-Klausner, son of Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, has become the 500,000th participant on Israel Tour, according to the Jewish Agency for Israel. Natan, who has just returned from Tour, represented RSY-Netzer at the Hertzl-themed 'Mega Event' in Herzliya.
The Mega Event brings over 10,000 young people together to celebrate all those visiting Israel during the summer. Participants were treated to a performance by Hadag Nahash and an impressive fireworks display. Youth movements from around the world were represented, including those from Argentina, South Africa, USA, Germany, Australia and many other countries.
Every year RSY-Netzer sends more than 100 participants to Israel on Tour.
Natan Janner-Klausner was presented with a certificate by Natan Sharansky, Head of the Jewish Agency, in front of the 10,000 strong crowd. He said: "I loved it; looking out into the crowd and seeing the smiling, proud faces of my close friends, cheering and singing with me was one of the most incredible feelings of Tour and I am honoured to have been given the chance to represent RSY-Netzer in such a positive way."
Richard Goldstein, Head of Israel Experience in the UK added: "A record-breaking 1,318 16 year-olds are taking part in UJIA Israel Experience educational tours this summer – more than ever before. Israel Tour has become a rite of passage for young Jews in the UK, where they learn about Jewish history, culture and connect with their heritage. These numbers are particularly encouraging given the current economic climate. To ensure that no one misses out on this life-changing experience, UJIA has established a Bursary Fund to enable families with challenging financial circumstances to send their children on Israel Tour and, in 2010, almost 25% of all participants were awarded a bursary."
