The Movement and Mitzvah Day 2011

PrintE-mail

Mitzvah Day 2011 takes place on Sunday 20th November. A Jewish led day of social action, it's when we give our time rather than our money to help others. This year the Movement for Reform Judaism offices at the Sternberg Centre are involved in two initiatives.

Mitzvah Day 2011 takes place on Sunday 20th NovemberStaff are collecting judaica for a Jewish Child’s Day project to send to a community in Belarus. The Etrog Community of Polotsk have no access to judaica and any donations will make a real difference to the spiritual lives of the Jewish people in this deprived community.

If you would like to contribute any items you may have (such as kippot, Kiddush cups, havdalah candles etc) you can bring them to the Movement office at the Sternberg Centre before 15th November. For more information, contact Andie Newman on 020 8349 5689.

The Movement is also taking part in Mitzvah Day's Give Away Your Lunch initiative. This is a project for work places and is all about linking offices with local charities for homeless people that really do need the food. It is hoped that this will lead to a longer term relationship between the offices and charities. Movement staff will be asked to donate items to a local charity, Homeless Action in Barnet.

Of course our communities across the country are strong supporters of Mitzvah Day and we will be highlighting their plans closer to the day itself.
