The Movement for Reform Judaism at Limmud 2011

PrintE-mail

As always, Limmud promises to be an enjoyable, inspiring and enriching experience again this year. It is taking place from 23-29 December at the University of Warwick and there will be a particularly strong Reform presence.

The Movement for Reform Judaism at Limmud 2011The Reform Movement is organising a series of sessions entitled, 'Arguments for the Sake of Heaven', in which two rabbis and a chair debate their differing viewpoints on topics of particular interest: social action, God and the use of Torah texts in tefillah (prayer).

Taking part in these sessions are some of our outstanding rabbinic voices: Julia Neuberger, Deborah Kahn-Harris, Paul Freedman, Mark Goldsmith and Laura Janner-Klausner.

Reform presenters, also including Adam Overlander-Kaye, Jude Williams, Rabbi Yuval Keren and Ben Rich, will lead an array of fascinating sessions, covering topics ranging from the poetry of Yehuda Amichai, to Jewish parenting; from life on campus to the politics and halachah (Jewish law) of recent government cuts; from Zionism and progressive Judaism to a response to intermarriage...

The Reform Movement's newly-appointed Movement Rabbi, Laura Janner-Klausner, is offering a three-part intensive entitled 'Bring on the Yetzer HaRah (Evil Inclination)', exploring issues of sex and lust, jealousy and ambition: "what would we do without them? How can we cope with them? The yetzer harah has been seen as the root of powerful and destructive desires but, if turned around, these can be positive, motivating and even delightful forces in our lives!"
