The Reform Movement in Election Fever!
Written by Movement for Reform Judaism Thursday, 29 April 2010
In the run up to the General Election, the Movement for Reform Judaism has been committed to bringing the messages of the three main party leaders to its members, as well as highlighting the Jewish imperative to vote and to fight against extremism.Rabbi Dr. Tony Bayfield invited the leaders of the three major parties to address Reform members. They responded with personal messages, focussing on issues of particular interest to our community:
David Cameron, Conservatives
Gordon Brown, Labour
Nick Clegg, Liberal Democrats
These messages to the Reform Movement were picked up by the wider Jewish press. Click to read articles on Gordon Brown and David Cameron which appeared in The Jewish News.
We also endorsed the Board of Deputies' election statement which was supported by major organisations from across the Jewish community and beyond. Read the statement and Rabbi Shoshana Boyd Gelfand's contribution on the Jewish imperative to participate in the democratic process.
Finally, John Speyer, Chair of Sheffield & District Reform Jewish Congregation has written an article about his experience in fighting the threat from the far right. Read what he has to say on our role as Reform Jews in the upcoming election.
