URJ Biennial: What Can We Learn?
Wednesday, 11 January 2012
Two dozen representatives from seven of our communities attended the North American Union of Reform Judaism’s Biennial in Washington, DC last December. There was much to learn and take in at the event with over 6000 attendees.Movement Board member and Vice President of the European Union for Progressive Judaism, Jonathan Lewis has prepared this report on the Biennial.
Jonathan says: "I have always felt that it is really important for us as British visitors to this conference to write up and discuss what we have learned, and to feed this into our own vision and strategy documents so that we benefit fully from our attendance.
"...this report is intended to look at what we can learn, what will work and what will not, and to start thinking about how we ensure that we both participate in and learn from our global movement. I feel that it is essential that we look at global lessons as we develop our own strategy and will ensure that this is fed into our own review process."
