The fighting is over - for the moment at least. Who knows what the next days and weeks will bring? It is already clear that the tunnels are back in operation and Egypt seems to have done nothing to prevent a resumption of smuggling. President Obama has despatched former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (who played such a significant role in Northern Ireland). Does that herald a full scale American attempt at mediation? Meanwhile, fear still hangs over Israel and innocent Palestinians in Gaza are still hungry, thirsty and exploited by Hamas. Is there nothing that we can say or do beyond feeling depressed?
Below are details of organisations dedicated to the relief both of traumatised Israelis and of suffering Palestinians. It includes details of organisations dedicated to building bridges - both between Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs and between Israeli Jews and Palestinians on the West Bank and in Gaza.
All we can do is to support the people of goodwill, those dedicated to relief of suffering and those dedicated to building relationships of trust across the divide. Whilst much is outside our hands - we have no vote in the upcoming Israeli elections nor any influence over American priorities and policies - small gestures of caring and support are always possible. Please follow up on the invitations in the website in the way that most resonates with you. And if there is no organisation here that does the trick for you, contact us and we will try to find an organisation that meets your needs and expresses your ideals.
