Winter Camp a Big Attraction
Monday, 04 January 2010
RSY-Netzer’s annual winter camp, Sheleg, was the biggest ever, with an increase of 30% on applications from last year.Sheleg, a 6 day residential for 11-15 year olds, took place between 18th and 23rd December in Northamptonshire and this year had over 50 participants. The theme was social action with the young people learning about issues in the UK, in Israel and globally. It is also a chance for participants to connect with Judaism in a positive way, with special Jewish moments throughout including the unique RSY-Netzer Shabbat and creative prayer each day.
RSY-Netzer Mazkir (National Secretary), Josh Martin attributes the increased interest in Sheleg, not only to an extremely successful summer of activities, but also to closer links between RSY-Netzer and Reform communities. He said: “we have worked hard over the last few years to raise the profile of RSY-Netzer both within Reform synagogues and beyond. RSY-Netzer bogrim (graduates) are also showing how keen they are to take the skills they have learned through running camps, back to their synagogues. 11 synagogues now have RSY-Netzer bogrim as their youth workers.”
