Your Voice or Theirs

The Board of Deputies has launched a major campaign to try to prevent the BNP winning seats at the forthcoming European Elections taking place on June 4th. The Movement for Reform Judaism strongly supports this campaign. The critical objective is to get people to vote as that is the way to ensure that the BNP do not succeed. Below is a message from Henry Grunwald QC, President of the Board of Deputies urging action to stop the politics of hate in the forthcoming European elections.
Dear Friends,
I write, not only as President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, but also as a husband, a father and a committed anti-fascist. At this important time of the year, when we remember our fight for freedom in Egypt, we also need to look at current events closer to home.
On June 4th 2009, the British National Party, the current incarnation of Mosley’s British Union of Fascists, is seeking election to the European Parliament. It plans to put up candidates in every part of the country. In some constituencies, they only need to secure 7.5% of the vote to get one MEP elected. Each of you has a duty to make sure that you and all your connections are registered to vote in those elections (closing date for registration is May 18th), and that, on June 4th, you, and they, go and vote. A high turnout makes it more difficult for the BNP to achieve its aims.
The simple question is, do you want to have “Your Voice or Theirs” representing you in Brussels?
I am very proud that the Board of Deputies has launched a campaign kit designed to assist you with local activities and events. As Pesach approaches, I urge you to get involved and make sure that you and your local community are doing everything they can to stop the politics of hate.
Chag Sameach

Henry Grunwald QC
